My project broke!

People were fondling her, but she is not interactive :(

I thought of bringing a few “do not touch” signs, but that felt like overkill!

There is no such thing as overkill when it comes to new media art shows

I had it running perfectly for several hours that day and then just before opening night, the display’s driver board was broken beyond repair, possibly due to someone thinking it was a touch screen and handling it roughly. For future iterations I will mount the screen inside in a way that supports the ribbon cable more.

On the right you can see what the screen looked like. I couldn’t get a replacement display delivered in time.

Here’s what I did

I ubered to the Santa Fe Walmart, Michaels, and Daiso and purchased:

DVI cable

Ethernet cable

Cheap wired headphones

And I gutted them, tangling the colorful insides up and installing them inside the head.

I lined the inner rim of the head with battery powered LEDs to illuminate the insides.

And thus, she was reborn in a new form.

I also bought star-shaped earrings for the 4th of july that blinked red white and blue, several balls of steel wool, shimmery ribbon, just in case I couldn’t use the little round display, I would have other contingency plans.
